Ukrainian and Dutch defense industries have begun development on a joint air defense system named Bliksem. The project was launched during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. Zelenskyy announced the start of the work on X, confirming that teams from both nations are already active on the initiative.
During the visit to the Netherlands, the leaders met with executives from the defense, energy, and software sectors. Zelenskyy stated that the cooperation aims to produce industrial, technological, and social results. He noted that standing alongside Ukraine now involves achieving tangible economic gains for both partners.
The Dutch government announced specific financial commitments alongside the new project. Prime Minister Jetten said the Netherlands will allocate 500 million euros for military aid to Ukraine. This funding is earmarked specifically to strengthen the country's air defense capabilities.
Beyond immediate military support, The Hague plans to provide 1.2 billion euros in non-military aid over the next three years. These funds are designated for recovery and reconstruction efforts. The Dutch government also intends to contribute 10 million euros to the Industrial Ramstein initiative for Ukraine.
Zelenskyy identified key priorities for future economic cooperation during the talks. These areas include defense production, joint technology, energy projects, and industrial development. The leaders also highlighted satellite technologies and air defense as central focus points. Zelenskyy did not disclose specific technical details regarding the Bliksem system.
