All the up and down train movements between Thane and Panvel have been significantly affected, as per the Central Railways.
Central Railway has reported a significant disruption in train services between Thane and Panvel in Maharashtra on Tuesday. The disruption has occurred due to the Overhead Equipment (OHE) issue at Nerul. The malfunction has affected both up and down train movements, causing delays and inconveniences for commuters on this busy route, said the Central Railway in a statement.
As per information from the Central Railways and Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Central, the issue had affected the train movement since 04:55 am. Following this, restoration works were underway and train services were resumed at 06:56 am.
Maintenance teams are on site
It further added that maintenance teams are on site, working to resolve the issue and restore normal train operations as quickly as possible. Passengers are advised to check for updates and consider alternative travel arrangements until the situation is rectified, the statement added.
"Due to an Overhead Equipment (OHE) issue at Nerul, all up-and-down train movements between Vashi and Panvel have been significantly affected since 04:55 hours. Restoration work is currently in progress," stated DRM Mumbai Central in a post in X.
Indian Railways to add 250 new suburban services
It should be noted here that Indian Railways has a special plan for Mumbai over the next five years, which includes adding 250 new suburban services, revamping the rail network, and building new mega terminals to ease rail travel in the financial capital. Last month, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the Railways intends to redesign the suburban network to reduce the 'cross movement' of trains as part of efforts to improve transportation in Mumbai and its suburban areas.
The Minister said that the railway plans to implement new technology to reduce the distance between two trains from the current 180 seconds to 150 seconds. He said that more attention is being given to separating suburban and long-distance rail services. "A big focus is on separating the suburban and long-distance train services," the minister said. It is pertinent to mention that Mumbai's suburban rail system operates 3,200 services daily, carrying over 75 lakh passengers.
