Baltimore consumers seeking high-end food items for holiday parties can visit five local retailers that specialize in artisan cheeses and cured meats. These shops provide both individual ingredients for homemade spreads and pre-assembled platters for hosts who want to save time. The selections range from standard European dairy products to international specialties like caviar and tinned fish. Each location caters to different neighborhood tastes and shopping preferences.
Cheese Galore and More operates at 1125 S. Charles St. in Federal Hill. Owner Sharon Johnson curates a shop that features a cheese case stocked with French brie, chèvre, aged Gouda, and blue cheeses. The store also sells imported cured meats, boutique wines, and house-made Asiago cheese dip. Customers can build their own boards or purchase fresh baguettes and crostini. The shop hosts pop-ups from local vendors such as Baltimore Beef Man and occasionally serves oysters.
The Wine Source is located at 3601 Elm Ave. in Hampden. This worker-owned business is known for its wine and spirit selection but also maintains a specialty food counter. The store stocks truffle salami, pistachio and lemon zest salami, Italian culatello, and country ham. Staff members slice meats to order and offer guidance on cheese pairings. Shoppers can add artisan bread, crackers, and olives to their purchases. The Wine Source prepares custom cheese and charcuterie platters if customers provide 24 hours notice.
Modern World sits at 1006 W. 36th St. in Hampden. The colorful storefront carries specialty snacks from around the world. Inventory includes tinned fish, artisan crackers, unusual potato chips, and caviar. The shop also stocks a wide range of nonalcoholic beverages, including alcohol-free wines and spirits. Displays feature a mix of savory items and zero-proof options for various dietary preferences.
Chesapeake Wine Company occupies Suite 112 at 2400 Boston St. in Canton. Located inside the historic American Can Company building, the shop entered a new ownership phase in 2025. Kim Bosley now runs the business with a focus on wines and spirits from women-owned producers. Customers can dine on a cheese board and a glass of wine or take items home. The store also sells prepared charcuterie boxes for those who prefer ready-made options.
The Market at Hamilton is situated at 5500 Harford Road in Northeast Baltimore. This specialty market was created by the team behind the nearby Silver Queen Cafe. The cheese counter rotates stock to include Tulip Tree Trillium and Foxglove, Purple Haze goat cheese, and Four Fat Fowl Camembert. Cured meats such as chorizo and black truffle salami are also available. Shelves hold specialty pastas, sauces, tinned seafood, gourmet mustards, and vinegars. The store also sells smoked tomato oil, smoked sea salt, preserves, cookbooks, candles, and serving accessories.
