Conor McGregor will compete in one final mixed martial arts event under his current contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The Dublin native confirmed the plan on social media, stating he intends to maximize commercial metrics for the occasion. His target is to surpass his previous personal records in audience numbers and revenue generation.

The announcement follows a quick loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329 on July 11, 2026. That bout ended in under two minutes with a first-round technical knockout. McGregor is currently recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained during that fight. He noted in his post that he will spend the next few months dealing with the aftermath before returning to the octagon.

McGregor defended his market value by comparing his performance to other major combat sports figures. He specifically cited boxer Canelo Álvarez, questioning the Mexican champion’s view counts and ticket sales. “I outperform all these guys in sales,” McGregor wrote. He added that his last event aired during the World Cup semifinal time slot yet still delivered strong numbers.

His commercial dominance is reflected in the UFC’s pay-per-view history. Eight of the top ten most-watched events in the promotion’s history featured McGregor. This record positions him as the most profitable asset in the company’s history. His previous fights against Nate Diaz and the 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo remain key drivers of fan interest and revenue.

The upcoming bout represents the final event in his current agreement with the organization. No opponent has been officially named, though two names have circulated in reports. Justin Gaethje, the current lightweight champion, and Nate Diaz are the primary candidates mentioned by Mundo Deportivo. Both fighters have deep connections to McGregor’s career narrative.

The tentative timeline for the return points to the summer of 2027. McGregor has not yet confirmed a specific date or venue. His focus remains on structuring the promotional campaign to drive record-breaking sales. The event will serve as the conclusion to his active competitive career in the UFC.
