Four people were wounded in a drive-by shooting outside a venue hosting a boxing event south of Brisbane, Queensland police have said.

Officers were called to a licensed premises in Loganholme at 8.15pm after reports that shots had been fired from a vehicle. Police said the vehicle involved was seen leaving the scene. The four injured people were taken to hospital, where their conditions were being assessed.

The venue, Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road, was scheduled to host the Logan City Titles Fight Night on Saturday. Queensland police deputy commander Chris Stream described the scene as "confronting" and told the Today show that a number of people had suffered gunshot wounds.

Logan mayor Jon Raven said residents in the area were frightened. "This has sent a shockwave through Logan. We've never seen something like this in Logan before," he told the program.

Raven said his thoughts were with the victims, the staff and everyone at the event. He said he had attended similar nights before and found them to be a family-friendly environment, with many children present. "This will impact them for the rest of their lives," he said.

The mayor said the night had been organised to help steer children away from violence. He said the organiser would be devastated by what happened, because the organiser loves boxing and uses it to empower and reconnect young people who might be going off the rails. "This is the opposite of what he'll want to see," Raven said.

Logan City Titles posted a statement on social media on Sunday morning. "We are heartbroken about the incident that occurred at the fight night," it read. The organisers described the event as one for the community, showcasing local talent, hard work and everyone's skills inside the ring. "These types of incidents have no place in the boxing community or any part of the broader community," the statement said.

The offenders remain at large. Police said they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public, and they urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact them.
