The New York Jets lost their third consecutive game on Sunday, falling 38-33 to the Las Vegas Raiders at MetLife Stadium. The defeat marks the sixth loss of the season for the team, with five of those games decided by a single score. Head coach Aaron Glenn’s squad entered the final minutes with a chance to win but failed to convert their last possession.
The defensive unit struggled to stop the Raiders' passing attack. Las Vegas quarterback Kirk Cousins completed passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns, finishing with a 141.0 passer rating. The Jets' pass rush recorded only one sack of Cousins during the contest. Wide receiver Brock Bowers was a major target for the Raiders, catching seven passes for 92 yards.
New York failed to force a turnover from the opposing offense. The Jets allowed the Raiders to convert on six of nine third-down attempts. Defensive penalties also hurt the team, including a pass interference call on a third-and-10 situation from the Vegas 35-yard line. These errors kept the Raiders' drives alive and resulted in additional scoring chances.
The Jets' offense generated 424 total yards of offense, but it could not capitalize in the red zone. Quarterback Geno Smith completed 20 of 32 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Braelon Allen rushed for a career-high 147 yards and scored a touchdown. Despite the high yardage, the team settled for four field goals from within the opponent's 20-yard line.
Offensive efficiency dropped in the second half. Wide receiver Garrett Wilson caught passes on the early drives but did not record another reception until the final eight minutes of the game. The team went 4 for 11 on third-down conversions, indicating difficulty in sustaining drives when pressure was high. Six penalties totaling 32 yards affected the game flow, including a fourth-quarter false start that ended a drive.
The game concluded with an interception by Smith with 10 seconds remaining. The Jets had 30 seconds left on the clock when they attempted to reach the end zone for a potential game-tying or winning score. The turnover ended the final play of the regulation season. This loss extends a recent streak of narrow defeats for the franchise.
Glenn addressed the team's performance in the postgame press conference. He stated that the defense needs to improve its execution, particularly regarding penalties on third down. He also noted that the team cannot give up touchdowns on kickoffs. Glenn said he must determine how to improve the defensive unit going forward.
The loss drops Glenn's record in one-score games to 4-9. The team will travel to Arrowhead Stadium next week to face the Kansas City Chiefs. The schedule continues against a top-tier opponent, testing the adjustments made after Sunday's result.
