The Maryland Transit Administration will waive fares on all major transit lines on Election Day. The agency confirmed that Tuesday, November 3, marks a fare-free day for riders traveling to and from polling locations.
The policy covers MTA Local Bus, Metro Subway, Light Rail, and Mobility services. Residents will not pay a cent for transportation throughout the day. The goal is to remove a financial barrier that might stop some voters from casting their ballots.
Polling stations across the state operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3. The MTA advises voters to verify their assigned locations before the day arrives. Planning ahead allows riders to map out efficient routes to their specific districts.
The agency suggests using the free Transit app to prepare. The tool displays real-time service updates and predicted arrival times. It also provides step-by-step directions for the most convenient transit options to any given polling place.
Those with questions about standard service can call the Transit Information Contact Center at 410-539-5000. Certified Mobility riders have a dedicated line at 410-764-8181. They can also visit mta.maryland.gov/mobility to arrange specific transportation needs.
The fare-free period lasts the entire day. It applies to all eligible riders on the covered systems. No other restrictions apply to the waived fares for that specific date.
