The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced its 2026 Breakthrough UK cohort on Tuesday, naming 21 emerging professionals across film, television, and video games. The organization selected these individuals to receive year-round career support, mentorship, networking opportunities, and full membership in the academy. This marks the 13th year of the initiative, which aims to assist rising talent in building lasting careers within the screen industries.
Actors Ella Bruccoleri of The Other Bennet Sister, Izuka Hoyle of Prisoner, and Sophie Stone of Falling are among the television and film selections. The cohort also includes Myrid Carten, whose documentary A Want in Her gained recognition on the festival circuit. Yassmin Abdel-Magied, a writer for Emmerdale, and Imran Perretta, co-writer and director of Ish, represent the writing and directing sectors. Louis Paxton, known for The Incomer, joins the group as a writer and director.
In the documentary and unscripted television categories, Chris Lynch, the presenter and producer of In the Driving Seat, and Runako Celina, the producer and reporter on Death in Dubai, received the honor. The program expanded its reach into the gaming industry by selecting five creatives. These include Eloise Singer, writer and director of The Pirate Queen: No Safe Waters; Husban Siddiqi, game director and developer of Rogue Eclipse; and Kate Killick, creative director of Pieced Together. Niru Fekri-Arnold, creator and designer of Cursed Words, and Tom McKay, a performer in Mysteria Ecclesiae: Kingdom Come Deliverance DLC, completed the gaming slate.
Jane Millichip, CEO of BAFTA, stated that the program champions talented creatives from all three screen sectors. She noted that the initiative is designed to provide the specific support and connections necessary for participants to develop their professional trajectories. The organization highlighted that previous alumni include Florence Pugh, Tom Holland, Jessie Buckley, Josh O'Connor, Bella Ramsey, Paapa Essiedu, and Letitia Wright.
Since the program's launch, more than 330 creatives have participated globally. These alumni have collectively secured over 200 BAFTA nominations and more than 80 wins. Netflix serves as the official supporter for the seventh consecutive year. The partnership is part of the streamer's Generation N initiative, which focuses on developing emerging and mid-career talent in the United Kingdom.
Anne Mensah, Netflix's vice president of U.K. content, said the company is proud to support the program for another year. She described the announced group as an exciting range of names and called it an honor to help them flourish through the provided guidance. BAFTA North America is expected to announce its U.S. Breakthrough cohort later in November.
