A woman was taken to the hospital after a vehicle smashed into the side of a Tamarac restaurant on Friday, leaving the car's back-end protruding from the building and the business boarded up hours later.

The crash occurred near Northwest 31st Avenue and 441, where the vehicle came to rest inside Flavor Bar Restaurant & Bakery. Police cruisers and a fire engine surrounded the property as crews responded to the scene.

According to Tamarac Fire Rescue, the driver overcorrected following an apparent two-vehicle crash, sending the silver Toyota into the restaurant. The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage, while the building's exterior was left with a shattered window and a partially damaged column.

The restaurant's owner, who did not wish to be identified, said she rushed over after getting a call about what had happened. "They just called me to tell me what's going on and I just wanted to see what's going on here. When I come in, a lot of police, ambulance, everybody was here but I don't know how that happened," she said.

The owner, whose business serves Haitian food, said nothing like this has occurred in the eight years the restaurant has operated at the location. "I'm very upset about that, very upset. The business is gonna be closed, I don't know how long. I don't know, only God knows," she said.

She also recognized the outcome could have been far worse, noting that customers would typically be seated at a table and sofa right beside the spot where the Toyota broke through. "Thank God nobody was inside, was there at the time," she said.

The cost of repairs is another source of worry for the owner. "Oh, that's going to be a lot of damage. I don't know, especially today. Everything is so expensive. I don't know, I really don't," she said.

A woman was transported to a nearby hospital, though her condition was not immediately known.

On Friday night, crews boarded up the restaurant's exposed exterior. Despite the damage, the owner said she remains hopeful the business can reopen by Saturday.
