Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will leave his post on November 16 to serve as the interim president of Baltimore City Community College. He plans to officially start the new college role on January 1, 2027. This move ends his tenure as the county's chief elected official.

Ball has served as Howard County Executive since his first election in 2018. Voters re-elected him in 2022. Before entering elected office, he worked for the college as the director of Complete College Baltimore.

Brandee Ganz, the County's Chief Administrative Officer, will serve as Acting County Executive during the transition period. She will hold the role from November 16 until December 7. A newly elected Howard County Executive is scheduled to take office on that date.

Ball announced the change on social media. He stated, "While my time in office is coming to a close, my commitment in public service is not." He added that returning to the institution is a full-circle moment.

The appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Dr. Debra McCurdy. McCurdy served as president for seven years. Dr. Roger Ward, the Interim Chair of the Baltimore City Community College Board of Trustees, commented on the transition.

Ward said, "Leadership transitions are an opportunity to honor the contributions of those who have served while renewing our commitment to the mission and future of our institution." He thanked McCurdy for her resolve and experience during a period that required steady leadership.

The Board of Trustees intends to provide details about the search for a permanent president in the coming months.
