The Jaguars held a 28-0 lead at halftime on Sunday, a margin that ranks as the third largest in franchise history. The team defeated the Indianapolis Colts 42-7 at home, extending its winning streak in this series to 12 games.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes in the rain. He connected with Brian Thomas Jr., who had recently been moved to the bench. Lawrence also found Bhayshul Tuten on a third-quarter screen and threw a 31-yard pass to rookie Nate Boerkircher during a strong first half.
Tuten added a 39-yard rushing touchdown where he broke three tackles. With 10 seconds left in the second quarter, Rayuan Lane returned an interception 92 yards for a score to seal the half.
The Colts (2-6) are in the middle of a rebuild. They traded defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and veteran guard Quenton Nelson five days before the game. The team also fired general manager Chris Ballard last month. Reports suggest the franchise is willing to trade star running back Jonathan Taylor.
Taylor was limited in the loss. He carried the ball eight times for 23 yards. He also fumbled on a botched trick play. The Jaguars (5-2) controlled the pace of the game throughout the contest.
Jacksonville's defensive line may face injuries going forward. Tackle DaVon Hamilton appeared to suffer a serious right knee injury in the second quarter. Teammates ran to his side, and a trainer quickly requested a cart. Hamilton left the field minutes later.
