Katie Suarez, 28, was found unconscious with two stab wounds to her neck on the Shore Parkway Greenway in Brooklyn on Friday evening. The attack occurred in a dark area with no nearby cameras, leaving police without video evidence of the incident.

Suarez had been training for the New York City Marathon scheduled for Sunday. She left her position as a teller at TD Bank around 6:30 p.m. and met with her mother. She changed into running clothes and left her work attire with her mother before heading out for what sources described as one of her final practice runs.

At 7:56 p.m., her father called to ask where she was. Suarez told him she was close to her job and only a five-minute run from meeting him. When she did not arrive and did not answer subsequent calls, her father walked toward her expected location. He found her lying on the path near Shore Parkway and Bay 17 Street.

Emergency medical services transported Suarez to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in critical condition. A report from the New York Post stated that she has been declared brain dead. Police have not identified a suspect or a motive for the attack.

A neighbor described Suarez to the New York Post as exceptional. "I mean, nobody is supposed to have [their] life taken, you know, being bad or good, but she was kind of exceptional to me, the way I interact with her," the neighbor said.

Detectives are reconstructing Suarez's movements on Friday night and are asking the public for information. The NYPD has not released a suspect's name or description.
