Stony Brook women’s soccer players secured a postseason berth on Sunday, October 25, after defeating Northeastern 2-0 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The victory guarantees the Seawolves a place in the CAA Women’s Soccer Championship.

Emily Lemke opened the scoring in the 27th minute. She received a penalty kick after being fouled inside the box during a physical first half. Lemke struck the ball with her right foot, sending it into the upper right corner of the net.

Goalkeeper Jona Hennings kept the lead alive by stopping the only shot Northeastern put on target during the first half. She repeated the feat in the second half, turning away a Huskies attempt to maintain the one-goal advantage.

The Seawolves increased their lead in the 83rd minute. Maya Corbett won a second penalty kick for the team after being brought down in the penalty area. Lisa Muller converted the spot-kick to make the final score 2-0.

The match featured 16 fouls and three yellow cards before halftime. Hennings made two additional saves near the end of the game to preserve the clean sheet. Stony Brook finishes its regular season schedule with a road game against Hofstra on November 1.
