The National Basketball Association returned to action on Wednesday, Nov. 4, with a 14-game slate after the league observed a full day of rest for Election Day. The centerpiece matchup features the Philadelphia 76ers against the Detroit Pistons, a contest between the two teams with the best records in the Eastern Conference. Detroit enters the game with a 6-1 record, while Philadelphia sits at 7-1.
The SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every game 10,000 times, projects the Pistons to win in 62% of those simulations. The model backs Detroit to cover the 2.5-point spread. The over/under for total points scored in the contest is set at 219.5. Detroit is favored by 2.5 points in the latest odds.
Cade Cunningham, who finished fifth in NBA Most Valuable Player voting last season, continues to lead the Pistons' offense. On Monday, Cunningham scored a season-high 33 points in a 33-point victory over the Charlotte Hornets. Detroit has played only two home games this season and has won both by eight-point margins.
The Pistons defeated the 76ers 106-93 in Philadelphia on Oct. 27. In that game, Cunningham scored 26 points. Detroit held Philadelphia to 40% shooting from the field and 26% from three-point range. Last season, the Pistons possessed the third-best scoring defense in the league and finished with the best record in the East.
In college football, the model selects Sacramento State to cover a 25.5-point spread against Toledo. The Hornets are playing in their first season in the Football Bowl Subdivision. They defeated Kent State 31-10 last week for their first conference victory. Sacramento State forced five turnovers in that win. The model projects the Hornets to cover the spread in 74% of simulations.
Toledo, the superior team on paper, has failed to cover the spread in two of its two double-digit favorite matchups in the Mid-American Conference this season. One of those games ended in a 23-8 loss to Buffalo. The Sacramento State and Toledo game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
In the National Football League, SportsLine expert R.J. White backs the Green Bay Packers to beat the New England Patriots on Sunday. The Packers are 3-point underdogs. White noted that Green Bay has held the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, and Carolina Panthers to 20 points or less in three straight games.
White observed that the Patriots' recent offensive success has come against weak defensive opponents. He pointed out that the New England defense allowed 26 or more points to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, and Chicago Bears in previous weeks. White believes the Packers' defense has shown improvement in recent weeks.
A bettor combining the Pistons, Sacramento State, and Packers picks into a single wager would receive a payout of +548. This means risking $100 to profit $548. The odds are subject to change. The SportsLine Projection Model has returned nearly $19,000 in profit for $100 players on top-rated NBA picks since 2018. The model is on a 26-11 record on top-rated spread picks in the NBA dating back to the previous season.
