Rangers Goaltending Crisis Deepens
A four-game losing streak and inconsistent saves have pushed New York to 7-7-1 just before the Thanksgiving benchmark.

The New York Rangers entered Tuesday play with a 7-7-1 record after dropping their last four games.
The team’s offensive output was not the primary issue during this stretch. The Rangers scored a combined 11 goals in three of those four losses. The exception was Sunday night’s game against the Edmonton Oilers, where New York managed only one goal.
Goaltending has emerged as the central problem for the squad since Igor Shesterkin sustained an injury. Dylan Garand, who had a strong start to the season, has seen his save percentage drop to .847 over the last four games. James Reimer, called up from the Hartford Wolf Pack to provide backup depth, was pulled in the first period of the game against the Los Angeles Kings after allowing three goals on nine shots.
The loss to Edmonton raised particular concerns because the Rangers had five days off following their defeat in Los Angeles. The Oilers were on the second half of a back-to-back and started Matt Tomkins, who had not started an NHL game in two and a half years. New York lost that matchup 4-1.
Garand expressed frustration with his performance in that game. "Honestly, I felt really, really good in the second 30 minutes, and I thought my first 30 minutes was awful," he said. "Honestly, inexcusable. Let the guys down. Pretty disappointing; put that loss on me."
New York currently holds 15 points, placing them one point behind the Washington Capitals, the third team in the Metropolitan Division. The American Thanksgiving holiday serves as a key indicator for playoff positioning. Historical data shows that 77 percent of teams in a postseason spot by that date advance to the playoffs.
The Rangers face a Nov. 26 deadline to establish themselves in the playoff conversation. Success by that date could influence general manager Chris Drury in making roster moves to sustain their campaign.
