The Baltimore Ravens will likely play the remainder of the 2026 season without backup quarterback Tyler Huntley. According to reports from ESPN, the player suffered a turf toe injury during the Week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills that will end his campaign.
Huntley entered that game after starting quarterback Lamar Jackson returned from a high-ankle sprain. Jackson played a single snap before injuring his thumb when his hand struck the arm of outside linebacker Gregory Rousseau. Head coach Jesse Minter announced on Monday that Jackson requires surgery and will be placed on injured reserve for an injury described as potentially season-ending.
With Jackson out, Huntley took the field and completed 15 snaps before sustaining his own injury. Minter stated that the backup would probably not be available for the upcoming game but indicated the team would monitor his condition to determine the duration of his absence.
Rookie Joe Fagnano is set to start at quarterback for Thursday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fagnano is currently managing an ankle injury of his own. The Ravens signed two additional quarterbacks, Austin Reed and Kedon Slovis, earlier this week to bolster the depth chart. If necessary, running back Justice Hill serves as the emergency option for the position.
Huntley has been a member of the Ravens organization for six of his seven NFL seasons. He joined the team in 2025 after spending training camp with the Cleveland Browns. He secured the backup role after Jackson’s injury in Week 4 that previous season, outperforming free agent signing Cooper Rush. The team signed Huntley to a contract extension in March, keeping him in Baltimore through the end of Jackson’s current contract, which expires after the 2027 season.
This season, Huntley started three games following Jackson’s ankle injury in Week 4. He held a lead for a victory against the Tennessee Titans without leading any scoring drives. The following week, he directed an overtime comeback win against the Atlanta Falcons. In the two subsequent games, which both resulted in losses, the offense produced strong first quarters before declining in the later stages of play.
The loss of Huntley leaves the Ravens with a thin group of healthy quarterbacks. Jackson’s thumb injury and Huntley’s toe injury occurred in the same game against the Bills, a contest that also marked Jackson’s return to the field. The team now relies on Fagnano and the newly signed veterans to manage the schedule through the end of the year.
